Our favourite places
Explore the Lion and Cheetah Park (about 40km away) and see rare beautiful White Lions and have a picnic in the bush surrounded by wild animals. A snake park is in the main area and a bird garden is near.
Wild is Life sanctuary is an orphanage for elephant, lion (to name a few) and does fantastic high tea. Booking at Wild is Life is essential. Check out their website. (They are near the Harare Airport)
Closer to home, indulge in delectable cuisine at Alo Alo, Cafe Valdemeer, and Maki Sushi (where you can also order on Whatsapp and pick up later). Close and convenient, they are our favorite restaurants in Arundel Village.

WHY SMART TRAVELLERS STOP OVER IN HARARE
BEFORE EXPLORING ZIMBABWE'S WONDERS
When visitors fly into Zimbabwe, their eyes are usually set on iconic destinations: Victoria Falls, Hwange National Park, Mana Pools, the cool mountains of Nyanga, or the lush forests of Bvumba. These are the places that become lifelong memories. But before heading out to the wild or the mountains, seasoned travellers know a secret.... a stopover in Harare makes the entire trip smoother, safer, and more enjoyable.
Here’s why resting in the capital, especially at a quiet, comfortable lodge like Kapok Lodge is a smart move; Long-haul flights are exhausting, and Zimbabwe’s distances are big. Flights into Harare often land late in the day, leaving you jet-lagged, overheated, physically drained and certainly not ready for a 4-8 hour journey to the bush or mountains. Zimbabwe’s national parks/camp sites and resorts are spread out, very beautiful, but not close.
Start the adventure fresh the next morning and Harare is the safest and easiest place to regroup & prepare. Harare offers reliable supermarkets, pharmacies, shops, and service providers. It’s the ideal place to get everything organised.
Before heading off, visitors often need to:
-
Buy a local SIM card
-
Draw USD cash
-
Get groceries or snacks for a road trip
-
Recharge devices, download maps
-
Repack bags
-
Confirm transport or tours
Kapok Lodge offers what tired travelers crave. Firstly a genuine warm welcome and experience a real taste of Zimbabwean hospitality. You can stay in a comfortable bed and have a hot bath or shower, a cold drink and catch up on social media with zero stress. You can even have a delicious meal prepared or your shopping done for you. A home base that feels safe and welcoming The location is also ideal, close to Harare Airport, Arundel, Borrowdale, top restaurants, and quiet residential streets. Perfect for both ends of the journey.
Zimbabwe’s beauty is vast and the journey to reach it can be long. A comfortable stopover in Harare isn’t a luxury.
It’s what makes the rest of the adventure better.
Every December, airports in Zimbabwe fill with a special kind of traveller: Zimbabweans returning home from the UK, Australia, South Africa, Canada, and beyond. They come back for one reason ...
FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
But after being away, there’s one challenge almost everyone faces:
Where will everyone sleep?
Grandparents’ houses get crowded.
Old bedrooms are now storage rooms or offices.
Kids need space to run and play.
And families want privacy while still being close to each other.
That’s where Kapok Lodge steps in.
A neutral, comfortable gathering place for the whole family. A place for everyone to wake up together.
You get the warmth of being close with none of the stress of overcrowding.
Kapok Lodge is perfect for big family reunions (up to 16 people), with two pools and lots of space outside to enjoy in the sun. And if its raining, lots of space inside to have a good time.
Its close to everything that matters during the holidays
You’re near restaurants, churches, shops and supermarkets, Borrowdale, Arundel Village and its central enough to visit family and friends without too much driving.
Kapok Lodge gives families:
A private retreat
WiFi and Smart TVs in every room
Reliable hot water and electricity
Secure parking
Room service
No washing dishes and cleaning up. Kapok Lodge is fully serviced.
Laundry service
Coffee and tea stations in every room
Coffee machine in main area
Create a new family tradition.
Morning coffees in the garden or Christmas cocktails by the pool
Kids opening presents together
Family breakfasts and Christmas lunch
Quiet evenings catching up with loved ones with a Charcuterie board and a glass of wine
It turns the trip home into something more meaningful and a wonderful shared experience.
Coming home for Christmas should feel warm, nostalgic, and joyful.
Kapok Lodge gives returning Zimbabwean families the space, comfort, and calm they need to reconnect and celebrate properly without stress.
It’s the perfect place for families to come together and make new memories in Harare.
